Healthcare Delivery: The New Trend for College Students

From Uber Eats to Amazon Prime, you’re used to having more than just pizza arrive at your door. And why not? When you’re busy with a full load of classes plus work, who has the time for traditional errands?

Delivery is for more than just food and shopping though. In the world of COVID-19, luckily healthcare delivery is an option too.

What is DispatchHealth?

When you’re sick or injured, the last thing you want to do is go spend time sitting around in the local emergency room or campus clinic. Instead, DispatchHealth sends a medical team to your apartment or dorm room for urgent health issues. We treat students for the flu, help with that bout of food poisoning from questionable sushi, stitch up nasty cuts, and even treat sprains, strains and migraines.

Does DispatchHealth test and treat COVID-19 symptoms?

Yes, our teams can test for COVID-19. The turnaround time for results is typically 3 days, and rapid, 24-hour testing will be available soon – check here for updates.

Our medical teams also treat people that have tested positive for COVID-19. They have nearly all the capabilities of an emergency room for non-life-threatening conditions and can administer IV fluids, prescribe medication, and more.

Plus, extensive protocols have been put in place to ensure medical teams are being extra safe when treating patients. Medical teams wear surgical masks, gloves, and protective eyewear for every patient encounter. For patients with respiratory and/or COVID-19 symptoms, teams also wear N95 respirator masks, gowns, and shoe covers.

How much does it cost?

Still on your parent’s insurance plan? No problem! DispatchHealth is in-network with most insurance companies, so you won’t have to worry about hefty bills. On average, most people pay anywhere from $5 – $50 after insurance. Note that if you have a high deductible plan, you will need to meet your deductible before your insurance will cover the cost.

Don’t have insurance? Still, no problem! DispatchHealth accepts cash pay – usually the cost is around $200.

How do I request a visit?

Give us a call, download our app or complete your request online and we’ll make sure it’s safe to treat you at home. If everything checks out, two medical professionals – including a physician assistant or nurse practitioner along with a DispatchHealth medical technician (DHMT)– will arrive within a few hours, ready to treat your illness or injury. We even call in your prescriptions, update your doctor and handle billing with your insurance company.
