Derek brings 20 years of diverse experience driving improvement and optimization efforts in multiple organizations through the lens of customer/patient experience, leading teams to innovative and novel solutions. He created the first process improvement function at the University of Colorado Hospital and UCHealth, leading two major emergency department optimization efforts at the busiest EDs in Colorado. Derek has extensive value stream and process mapping experience, documenting processes in dozens of business and healthcare functions over the years. Derek’s passion for driving change to benefit the patient experience has resulted in the completion of multiple projects where patient satisfaction and outcomes were dramatically improved.
Derek is a 6 Sigma Master Black Belt and Lean Black Belt. He received his BA from Gustavus Adolphus College and his MBA from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business. A native of Minnesota, Derek has lived in Denver for 25 years with his wife Jennifer and their son Anders (19) and daughter Britta (15). He enjoys spending time with his family, fly fishing and tying, and enjoying Colorado’s outdoor activities.
