Treat pneumonia the better way – in your home

If you suspect you’re experiencing pneumonia symptoms, you need to focus on rest and recovery. Unfortunately, traveling to a local urgent care facility or other health care facility is not the way to do that. Driving across town can be a real hassle, and once you arrive, it may take hours to receive help. DispatchHealth will travel directly to you in order to provide comprehensive pneumonia care. In many cases we will confirm whether or not you have pneumonia and develop a treatment plan without you ever having to step foot outside your home. If it turns out you do have pneumonia, this will prevent exposure to other diseases in contaminated environments like a doctor’s office or medical facility. Download our app, give us a call, or request care on our website to let us help you with your pneumonia.

If this is an emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Pneumonia: cause & effect

Pneumonia is caused by an infection that impacts the lungs. The infection causes air sacs to fill with pus and fluid, resulting in significant disruption to the respiratory system and overall health of the body. Until the infection is contained, pneumonia patients will have a variety of unpleasant symptoms.

The most common symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Pain in the chest
  • Productive coughing
  • Vomiting
  • Shortness of breath

Medical treatment should be sought as soon as pneumonia symptoms are observed. Pneumonia is especially dangerous for seniors and individuals with a compromised immune system. Treatment may include antibiotics to eliminate the infection, as well as other medications for symptom management.

If left untreated

Untreated pneumonia may lengthen the duration of sickness and is a potentially deadly illness. The longer a patient has pneumonia, the more he or she risks the development of complications. Organ failure, bacterial infections in the blood, and the spread of infections are all risk factors associated with untreated pneumonia.
