Denver Business Journal Names Dr. Mark Prather, Among Colorado’s Most Admired CEOs

Mark Prather and DispathHealth Rover

(DENVER) October 28, 2021 DispatchHealth is both proud and humbled to announce company co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Prather MD, MBA, has been named among Colorado’s Most Admired CEOs by the Denver Business Journal (DBJ). In his announcement, Associate Editor Jonathan Rose says, “Denver is living through a transformative moment, and today we reveal the top executives guiding their organization through this time and driving transformation themselves.

Over two decades working in emergency medicine, Dr. Prather witnessed the myriad of challenges faced by some of the most vulnerable individuals in our population. He designed DispatchHealth with an eye towards that population to alleviate suffering by delivering personalized, high-quality care in the comfort of home. Chief Strategy Officer and fellow co-founder Kevin Riddleberger says, “A personal commitment to humanizing healthcare drives Dr. Prather, when we started our purpose was simple and bold – reduce the total cost care, improve clinical outcomes, and delight patients by moving the high acuity skillset from a facility and into the home.”

Under Dr. Prather’s leadership, DispatchHealth has scaled from its Denver roots to offer complex home-based medical care, including mobile imaging, in 27 states and 47 markets, and contracting with multiple payers to cover over 150 million lives. At its current growth rate, DispatchHealth will generate more than $2B in medical cost savings by 2023. Riddleberger adds, “Dr. Prather is a unique healthcare leader in that he has been in the trenches as a clinician, a proven operator, digital health innovator, incredibly creative and moves with empathy.”

The value of DispatchHealth’s home-based care strategy proved particularly significant amid COVID-19. Dr. Prather answered the call by driving growth when many distanced from healthcare – meaning thousands of vulnerable people could avoid hospitals, and those suffering chronic illnesses not addressable through telemedicine, were afforded hands-on care. Early DispatchHealth investor and Managing Director at Alta Partners, Dr. Pete Hudson says, “I can think of numerous admirable qualities, but chief among them is Dr. Prather’s bottomless drive and passion for succeeding at changing healthcare delivery for the betterment of the patient. I’ve enjoyed watching him drive success in this evolving marketplace.”

Finally, Dr. Prather’s vision has always prioritized creating a welcoming workplace that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion. In 2021 that vision was validated by its Great Places to Work certification – the global authority on workplace culture, employee experience, and the leadership behaviors proven to deliver market-leading revenue, employee retention, and increased innovation. “Great Place to Work Certification™ isn’t something that comes easily – it takes ongoing dedication to the employee experience,” said Sarah Lewis-Kulin, vice president of global recognition at Great Place to Work. “It’s the only official recognition determined by employees’ real-time reports of their company culture. Earning this designation means that DispatchHealth is one of the best companies to work for in the country.”

The Denver Business Journal will be honoring Dr. Prather and the other outstanding CEOs, receiving the honor for their invaluable contributions to the Denver region at a celebratory awards dinner on November 11, 2021.
