Can anxiety cause nausea?

Anxiety can cause nausea and other digestive problems. While you may think of anxiety as a mental condition, it affects your physical body, too.

Your brain and gut have a close connection known as the gut-brain axis. When you experience anxiety, your brain sends out hormones to protect you from danger. These hormones also go to your digestive system and change your gut’s natural balance, or microbiome. This imbalance in your gut can make you feel nauseous.
